Use blanket or smothering effect to put out the fire. Water is most effective when used as a mist or spray. (Class B fire protection). Water may be effective for cooling, but may not effective extinguishment. Wear full protective clothing. Use water spray to keep fire exposed containers cool. May form explosive mixtures with air. Vapor may travel considerable distance to an ignition source and flashback. Container explosion may occur under fire conditions.

Emergency First Aid Procedures:

 

Eyes-

If in eyes, flush with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Get medical attention.

Skin-

If on skin, immediately remove contaminated clothing and wash skin thoroughly with soap and water. If irritation persists call a physician.

Inhalation-

If inhaled, remove to area of fresh air. If irritation persists, call a physician.

Ingestion-

If swallowed, do not induce vomiting. Drink large quantities of milk or water. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Call a physician or the Poison Control Center.

SECTION VII - SPILL OR LEAK PROCEDURES

Steps to be taken if Material is Released or Spilled:

Clean up personal must wear proper protective equipment. Reclaim material into closed containers for possible normal use or disposal. Dike all spills. Ventilate area and remove all ignition sources. Liquid can be flushed with water away from sensitive areas. Flush to an open area not to the sewer.

Waste Disposal:

Dispose according to local, state and Federal regulations. Waste can be burned in an approved incinerator/disposed of via a licensed disposal company.

 

SECTION VIII - SPECIAL PROTECTION INFORMATION

Ventilation Requirements:

Adequate and local exhaust ventilation to maintain concentration.

Special Personal Protective Equipment:

 

Respiratory-

Use NIOSH approved organic vapor respirator.

Eyes-

Chemical splash goggles and / or face shield.

Gloves-

Chemical resistant gloves.

Other-

When handling Tarksolene, use of rubber apron and rubber boots is also recommended. Safety showers and eye wash facilities must be readily available. Wash thoroughly after handling.

 

SECTION IX - SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS

Precautions to be taken in Handling:

 

Do not get in eyes.

Proper Storage, Handling and Disposal Requirements:

 

Store in cool dry area. Keep container closed when not in use. Store away from strong oxidizing agents. CAUTION: KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.

Other Precautions:

Prolonged contact with skin may cause chapping. Wear rubber or plastic gloves, chemical splash goggles and rubber apron when handling this product. Use in well ventilated area. Respiratory protection is not normally required. Use NIOSH approved organic vapor respirator. The availability of eye washes and safety showers in work areas is recommended.

 

 

Regulatory Information

All ingredients are included in the Toxic Substance Control Act (TSCA) Inventory of Chemical Substances. Tarksolene (Xylene) may be toxic to aquatic life.
