  Tarkseal Silox SAC

A Premium Solvent, VOC Compliant, Based Siloxane/Acrylic Impregnating Water Repellent and Gloss Sealer for Masonry

Now a Combination Siloxane and Acrylic Sealer

Designed To Form A Hydrophobic Barrier Beneath The Surface And Seals Out Moisture While Remaining Highly Vapor Permeable with a Gloss Finish. Tarkseal Silox SAC Sealer and Water Repellent combination is an economical alkylated alkoxy siloxane with an Acrylic Gloss Finish

Product Description

Tarkseal Silox SAC is an alkylated alkoxy siloxane solvent based high performance penetrative masonry water repellent with a combination of an acrylic gloss finish.. The product is suitable as an impregnating agent for fresh concrete, plaster, calcium silicate brick, including highly alkaline surfaces. It demonstrates deep penetration into a variety of absorbent mineral building materials.  Tarkseal Silox SAC is a VOC compliant product that deeply penetrates into new (14 day minimum) or existing concrete and masonry surfaces. Surfaces treated with Tarkseal Silox SAC have a gloss finished appearance. Engineered for bridges, parking structures, athletic stadiums, highways and for above grade vertical and horizontal substrates including: concrete, brick, block, plaster, natural stone and other masonry surfaces. Tarkseal Silox SAC will chemically bond with the substrate. The visual appearance of the treated surfaces will show a gloss finish resulting from product application. The benefits include enhanced resistance to efflorescence, mildew growth, corrosion, scaling, spalling, surface erosion, cracking, salt and other costly damage to hard surfaces. Tarkseal Silox SAC penetrates into the pores and capillaries of the cement based materials reacting with the moisture and chemicals in the substrate, polymerizing and sealing the pores, which prevents water, chemical, and chloride ion penetration. Tarkseal Silox SAC will not darken most color sensitive surfaces. Tarkseal Silox SAC will produce a surface film that will not impair the natural breathing characteristics of treated surfaces.

Advantages

·         Penetrates deeply to produce long lasting protection on vertical or horizontal surfaces.

·         Protects brick, concrete, and masonry from wind-driven rain.

·         Reduces corrosion of rebar and surface erosion in reinforced concrete.

·         An effective salt or chloride screen.

·         Alkaline stable-suitable for new “green” concrete

·         Prolongs the surface life and prevents damage from within by maintaining vapor permeability of concrete.

·         Does produce a high gloss finish.

·         Superior water repellency for porous surfaces including concrete, fibrous cement products, calcium silicate brick, natural stone, plaster and brick.

·         Suitable for alkaline concrete surfaces

·         Better masonry protection than water based siloxanes. Tarkseal Silox SAC does react with moisture in concrete therefore can not be supplied in a water emulsion. This offers a premium protection product.

Use Instructions

Apply only to untreated surfaces. New concrete must be cured 45 days. If, a cure and seal was used, it must be stripped off the concrete to allow penetration..  Adjacent surfaces such as doors, windows, and other non-absorbent surfaces should be masked before spraying to avoid contact with the impregnating solution. Tarkseal Silox SAC may be applied over itself or generic equivalents that have aged or have been applied at less than specified spread rates. A test application is necessary on each surface to be treated to ensure compatibility and desired water repellency. Test areas are also useful in determining finial application rate and procedures. If the material in the test area does not fully penetrate due to coatings or inadequately cleaned surface, use one of Tarksol’s concrete cleaners, coating stripper, degreaser, or acid etch. Two coats are recommended. Tarkseal Silox SAC will form a surface film; it is also a penetrating product. Protect new applications from rain for 4-5 hours after application for the water repellent to become effective. Tarkseal Silox SAC will react with moisture. Tarkseal Silox SAC is a fast drying VOC compliant solvent based product.

Applications

Always apply with uniform pattern until surface is saturated and the material starts to run down or puddles. Tarkseal Silox SAC should not be diluted or altered. Apply with low-pressure (20 PSI) chemical resistant airless industrial spray equipment, however, brush or roller application is adequate where appropriate. When applying Tarkseal Silox SAC, it is suggested that the substrate receive an initial light mist coat to break the surface tension. This should then be followed immediately by a uniform flood coat which allows just enough material to carry a 4 inch rundown from contact point or flood coating on horizontal surfaces.

HORIZONTAL SURFACES: Tarkseal Silox SAC should be applied with a second coat with sufficient material applied so the surface remains wet for a few minutes before penetration into the surface. Surface residues, pools and puddles should be broomed or brushed out until they completely penetrate into the surface.

VERTICAL SURFACES:  Tarkseal Silox SAC should be applied and absorbed on the substrate to the specific coverage rate. In the case of extremely dense, mirror finish architectural concrete and similar surfaces, it may be necessary to restrict the amount of material by applying a light mist coat in order to prevent surface darkening. Allow the mist coat to penetrate the masonry surface (approximately 3-5 minutes) and apply a second coat in the same saturation manner. Apply Tarkseal Silox SAC in a flooding application, from the bottom up with sufficient material applied to provide a 6” to 8” run down below the contact point of the new spray pattern with masonry surface.

All surfaces must be clean, dry and free of grease, oil, paint, sealers, etc. To clean, use Tarksol Consolv or Tarksol Oilsolv III. Prepared concrete should have a pH between 6 and 10. All horizontal concrete must be etched with Concrete Etching Solution, prior to applying Tarkseal Silox SAC.

Coverage Rates

Although the recommended spread rates are generally adequate, there may be variations in substrate porosity, which may require more or less material for optimum results. Apply at recommended spread rate after determining the size of the surface. With Tarkseal Silox SAC one coat is normally adequate; a two-coat application reduces the potential for inadequate coverage.
