Non-VOC, High Solids, Solvent Based, Non-Yellowing, Acrylic Concrete Curing, Sealing, and Dustproofing Compound.

A Solvent Based Sealer with VOC's < 100 Grams/Liter

Meets all State VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) Regulations

(New Jan. 1, 2005 Regulations and Future Regulations coming into Law)

Designed for use as a cure on freshly placed concrete and as a high gloss sealer for aged finished concrete.

Use as a sealer/dustproof on both previously cured and new rough or smooth finished concrete surfaces. This curing/sealer contains 23% solids.

Product Description

·        High Gloss

·        Repels Oil

·        Repels Grease

·        Repels Water

·        Will not Stain

Applied to freshly placed and finished concrete surfaces, TARKSEAL creates a vapor seal that retains moisture for proper curing. It also provides early rainfall protection and resistance to abrasion and staining. The sealer will protect against spalling, dusting, efflorescence, freeze thaw damage, and alkali degradation.

TARKSEAL can also protect in food preparation areas from food and beverage stains and slabs in garages and parking facilities from grease and oil penetration

Tarksone is the solvent used in TARKSEAL. Tarksone is a 0 VOC solvent that evaporates very quickly and exhibits a flash point over 140 deg F.. TARKSEAL is a 23% Acrylic exhibits UV resistance from sunlight, excellent protection against water and chloride intrusion. Unlike Epoxies, TARKSEAL Acrylic will not yellow from UV exposure

Advantages

·         Specifically designed to meet the moisture retention properties of:

ASTM C 1315 Type 1, Class A

ASTM C 309

·         Remains spray able in freezing temperatures

·         Ensures sufficient retention of mix water for at least 72 hours, allowing concrete to develop maximum strength, density and surface hardness

·         Prevents surface crazing and cracking

·         Dries to a dust and tack proof state in 30 minutes quickly providing protection from rainfall, scuffing and foot traffic

·         Acrylic Polymer – UV resistant, will not yellow

·                     Reduces final clean-up costs by protecting concrete from oil, grease and chemical spills and from mortar splashing adhesion

·         Second applications, after finial clean up, beautify concrete appearance with a lustrous sheen and reduce after-occupancy maintenance costs

·         Treated surfaces are readily recoat able when necessary without sanding or scarification

·         TARKSEAL; is compatible with most adhesives used for resilient floor coverings and concrete paints

Tarkseal vs. Water Based Sealers

Sealer Properties

TARKSEAL

Water Based Sealer

Appearance quality

High Gloss deep finish. Harder finish

Surface coat-Not a deep rich gloss

Longevity of finish

Several Years 5+ years. Much longer lasting finish.

1-2 Years

Re-coat

2 coats produce a high gloss. The solvent penetrates the first coat, creating a solid bond

The water will not penetrate first coat. Obtain a layer effect with the second coat sitting on the first. No bonding

Quality of Seal

Best true seal of the concrete

Does not penetrate, can flake off

Dry Time

20 – 30 minutes

Can be several hours, depending on humidity

Clean Ability

Resistant to all cleaners, oils, and most solvents

Not resistant to most cleaners and solvents

Patch Up

Solubilizes sealer and bonds as a new continuous film.

Patch up is layer effect, does not penetrate the coating

Scaling and Flaking

Will not flake. Hydrostatic pressure will not cause “popping”

Can flake off with abrasion and water entrapment. Trapped water will cause hydrostatic pressure  causing “popping”

Concrete Seal

Penetrates concrete-better seal

Does not penetrate, layer effect, can flake off

Durability

2 Coats produces a very hard dense surface. Chemical resistant

Wears quickly, due to layer coating second coat does not penetrate the first

Penetration

Deep penetration into concrete

Surface Coat-No penetration

Temperature sensitivity

Can be used in any temp. Will not freeze

Very temperature sensitive. Can not be used in cold weather and very sensitive to humidity.

Solids

High solids 23%

Low solids most water based sealers 12-15% solids

Osmotic Water Pressure

No surfactants remaining in film to cause osmotic pressure on concrete film interface

Contains surfactants that stay in film causing osmotic pressure.

Use Instructions

Sealing Exposed Aggregate

Site environmental conditions, substrate conditions and construction have a major effect on product selection, application methods, procedures and rates, appearance and performance. Product literature provides general information applicable to some or most conditions. However, an adequate site test application by the purchaser or installer in advance of field scale use is mandatory, to verify that product and quantities can be satisfactorily applied and will achieve desired appearance and performance under intended use conditions.

Low pressure spray application provides the best results, however, product can be applies with brushes or rollers. Spray apparatus should be equipped with chemically resistant hoses and gaskets. Larger areas are most economically treated with power sprayers.

Do not thin or dilute

Applications

Application rates vary with substrate conditions.

Approximate rates for curing is 250 square feet per gallon

Approximate rate for sealing is 300 square feet per gallon

Application equipment should be cleaned with solvents (Tarksol Biosoy or Tarksol HTF-85B environmental solvents is suggested

Freshly Placed Concrete

Previously Cured Concrete

Maintenance

Apply immediately following finial finish and disappearance of surface water sheen

Remove all dirt, oil, grease, paint or foreign cure residue with Tarksol Super Strip or Tarksol Consolv (environmental cleaners) and clean with a 10% caustic solution.

Wipe up all chemical, solvent or petroleum spills as soon as possible

Apply to the point of saturation and appearance of continuous surface film

Rinse thoroughly with clean water and squeegee off excess water.

Remove all dirt and debris by sweeping

Concrete should be damp but not wet. Avoid over application, puddles or runs

Allow surface to dry 24-48 hours prior to first application

Wash and buff periodically to help maintain surface luster. Tarksol Power Green is recommended.

For maximum sealing and dustproffing benefits, apply a second coat of TARKSEAL after finial clean-up and concrete is dry

Use moisture meter or adequate material test to verify satisfactory adhesion and appearance

Clean damaged coating areas promptly and recoat

Apply a second application in 24 hours

Precautions

Do not use on concrete slabs with inadequately drained subgrade, Treated surfaces to be covered with concrete or plaster, and/or surfaces subject to hydrostatic water pressures.

Coating delaminating (blistering) may occur if applied prior to allowing all surface bleed water to fully evaporate. Moisture saturated subgrade or a moisture barrier placed beneath the slab to be cured and/or sealed may increase the risk of coating delaminating.

Do not use with other floor sealers, treatments, bondbreakers or adhesives without prior site test to determine compatibility and adhesion.

Any variations in concrete surface density may be highlighted by surface mottling after product application. Make test application to determine performance and appearance acceptability

Do not use around sparks or open flame. Provide adequate ventilation.

Treated surfaces may be slippery prior to drying and when wet with water or liquids after drying.

When used in exterior applications, coated surfaces will slowly oxidize in time, necessitating reapplication.
